Today’s security system isn’t like the one you grew up with. Just like cell phones, television, and the internet, security devices and the companies that monitor them have technically evolved. While security devices are still the best defense in preventing crime, their capabilities go beyond stopping home robberies.
Advancements in security technology now provide consumers with easy to use two-way voice equipment that work to prevent medical emergencies, and provide assistance during home invasions and fires.
Imagine you feel a sharp pain in your chest and fall to the ground in your living room. No one is home and you think you’re having a heart attack. What do you do? As you hit the ground you feel the clump of your keys in your pocket against your leg. You reach for your keys and press the medical panic button on the key fob your alarm installer provided for you. Within seconds a friendly voice comes over your keypad asking you if you are okay while sending medical help to your home. A similar situation happened to James Holtz last month in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Holtz was home alone when he fell to the ground, but thankfully for the alarm’s key fob attached to his keys and the two-way voice keypad, his life was saved. “The monitoring representative stayed with me until the paramedics arrived. She was so calm and reassuring,” said Mr. Holtz. Crime Fighters of Atlanta, a Monitronics authorized dealer, is proud to install similar devices weekly in residential neighborhoods across Atlanta. “We are in the business of saving lives and protecting families and we know that this product is there to help those families when they need help the most,” said Shana Cooper, partner at Crime Fighters of Atlanta.
What exactly is two-way voice? Two-way voice verification starts when a security technician installs a two-way voice capable keypad in a home or business and sends the proper signals to a central monitoring station to monitor the alarm for burglary, fire, and medical emergency. The alarm is monitored 24 hours a day for all duress events. While the technician is installing the alarm, he installs different devices that communicate with the alarm system’s central panel that alert our monitoring center in the event an emergency. Certain devices can be linked to the alarm panel to assist in two-way interactions. The key fob that helped save Mr. Holtz’s life is programmed with a police and medical duress function which assists the user at the time of medical emergencies, robberies, and during a home invasion. A wearable medical pendant and a wall mounted medical alert device are especially important for those with medical concerns and seniors living alone and a monitored smoke alarm provides assistance during a fire. All these devices will send a signal to the Monitronic’s central monitoring station alerting the monitoring technician who can then alert the proper authorities.
When the technician receives the duress signal they immediately come over the alarm’s keypad and call out the residents in the home. During this time they are able to assist the person in need while simultaneously alerting the police, EMT’s, and fire department. While they can reach out to residents over the keypad, they can only do so when the alarm is activated and are not able to listen into a person’s home otherwise.
Two-way voice devices should be installed in every home. The value they give is true peace of mind knowing that you are never alone when an emergency occurs in your home.
