FAQ
We are happy to work with your existing broadband or VOIP phone line; however, be aware that your home security system could suffer some performance issues. The industry has yet to establish a uniform set of standards for VOIP technology and in some cases VOIP lines may not properly transmit signals to the monitoring station. In situations where traditional phone lines are not available, we recommend using a cell radio device as the primary connection to Monitronics central monitoring. Cellular connections to Monitronics' monitoring station are made using our cellular systems and components. All cellular systems are located within your home, providing further protection from outside tampering, and can be used as either primary or backup security. A residential alarm system has four parts: window/door sensors, a motion detector, the alarm unit, and a control panel with display and keypad. We will work with you to select a secure place to install the alarm unit, as well as a convenient location near an entryway for the control panel. Whether your alarm self-activates or you initiate the call for help, your alarm system will seize your phone line and dial Monitronics. Following strict procedures, our professional dispatchers act quickly to contact you and verify your alarm signal and situation. Within seconds after your signal, the appropriate police, fire, medical, or other authorities are on their way to your home. For pets weighing less than 70 lbs we offer special pet motion detection devices that our trained professionals can install in your home. For larger and/or more active pets we offer glass break detection devices in place of our traditional equipment. These devices do not sense the movement of objects but instead detect breaking glass, allowing your pets to roam free while you are away from home.
